Today Abu Dhabi became the world’s capital of sustainability and welcomed state representatives and business leaders from across the globe. In the presence of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE's Armed Forces, the ADSW Opening Ceremony kicked off the major sustainability gathering in the region with more than 38,000 sustainability advocates from 175 countries committed to accelerate the transition to sustainable future. #WeAreCommitted.

 

Opening Ceremony – Welcome keynote

HE Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State, Chairman of Masdar, welcomed global state representatives and thousands of sustainability advocates. Setting the stage for ADSW, he announced Masdar’s win to build the first utility-scale wind farm in Saudi Arabia with the breakthrough price of 2 cents per kWh. “The UAE has leveraged its energy expertise to play an influential role as a catalyst for and an incubator of clean energy and sustainability.” 

 

Zayed Sustainability Prize

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed honoured the 10 winners of the 2019 Zayed Sustainability Prize and their country leaders for their commitment and contribution to social and economic development in their regions.

WFES Water Forum

H.E. Fatima Al Foora Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity, Water & Future Energy Affairs - Ministry of Energy & Industry, discussed the  UAE’s 2036 Water Security Strategy during Her welcoming remarks. “The UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 aims to reduce average consumption per capita by half as well as focus on sustainable practices.” 

 

CLIX - Climate Innovations Exchange

His Excellency Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change & Environment, UAE: “Through platforms such as CLIX, we empower young people to step up, to innovate, and to harness the power of technology to address current and future sustainability challenges.“ CLIX gathers 48 innovators and entrepreneurs from around the world to pitch their innovations in 3 key pillars: Sustainability in Space, Future of Food and Agriculture & Future of Energy.
